Prosthetic Leg Cost

After speaking with a lot of amputees we have found that three basic questions come up.

How much will the prosthetic leg cost me?

Who are the best companies near me?

Does Insurance or Medicare cover the cost of a prosthetic leg?

These are the big ones.

When it comes to the cost of a prosthetic leg in towns like Wheaton, Joliet, Naperville, or Chicago, we can help you get the price.  We can do this because we are licensed in IL to provide prosthetics and know the system of reimbursement.  – If however you are in another state, we can get you close with this information but you would need to check with your prosthetic provider prior to locking in these costs.

The prices change due to region, for example and they also change from year to year.

If you are in Illinois though, we can tell you that there is a price range for a below knee prosthetic leg that goes from $6,000 to $17,000 for a below knee prosthetic leg..  This has a lot to do with the foot you receive and the quantities of supplies you get.  Some of the really high end feet cost up to $7900 for example so you can see quickly how this would greatly effect the price.

Best Prosthetic Companies Near Me

Quality matters.  So does service.  But the truth is that people will look at what makes a prosthetic company good in different ways.  – After talking with many amputees we have serviced in Chicago, Bolingbrook, Wheaton, Naperville and in Joliet, we find these things come up when determining the best prosthetic companies in these areas.

Google review score.  This is an interesting topic because more people will jump to say something negative in retaliation to poor service, than they will to give a compliment online.  We know this is not always the case but the saying “bad news travels around the world, before good news puts its clothes on” exists in one form or another.

However, if companies can work hard enough to get good reviews this carries value.

This in our opinion is a start to finding the best companies in Chicagoland and you are obviously welcome to do the research needed to feel comfortable on your end when learning about companies.

Also, will they come out to you when you are in a pinch and how long will you be waiting?  That is a big one too.

Here are some other companies besides ours that have stood the test of time and you may want to check them out.

A.) Optech Orthotics & Prosthetics

B.) Hangar Clinic

C.) Stellar

D.) Rotter Prosthetics and Orthotics

Does Insurance or Medicare Pay For Prosthetic Legs

Often times they can, but it is not a guarantee.

Insurance and Medicare can help pay for 80-100% of the cost of a prosthetic leg but certain things have to be in place.

For example, the doctor, physician assistant or nurse practitioner needs to have in their own notes the medical necessity for your new prosthesis.  A person has to demonstrate their willingness to walk again and other important details have to be there.

You also need a script often times from the same doctor, nurse practitioner or physician’s assistant who wrote the notes mentioned above.

You also have to consider your deductible.

Do not take us the wrong way.  Insurance and Medicare can greatly assist in the payment for one of these prosthetic legs we are talking about above but there is a system in place.  – Your prosthetic provider can offer you assistance in determining if your insurance and Medicare will pay for your leg.  So do ask for the help from them.  That part is free!

We hope this information helped.  We can not control what other companies charge, but we did want to give you a good frame work to know what the general parameters are on cost.  Do check out our other blog post we mention above.  It will go a long way for you.
